I am highly qualified to serve as a Trustee for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) because of my extensive experience in education, community advocacy, and policy development. My background includes supporting foreign-trained professionals in Canada, running free computer classes for community members, serving in leadership roles in School Councils for over 20 years, and understanding educational policy and budget management. I am committed to ensuring that all students have access to high-quality education.
I have been a proud member of the Don Valley West community for over 20 years, living, working, and volunteering in the area. I am the Founding Member and President of the Canadian Community Services Organization (CCSO), organizing food drives, school backpack events, and toy drives. I also serve as a member of the Toronto Police 53 Division Community Police Liaison Committee and have contributed to various safety and community engagement initiatives.
The most important role of a school trustee is to advocate for students, parents, and educators while ensuring effective governance of public education. This includes setting policies that reflect the community's needs, ensuring equitable access to education, and holding the school board accountable for transparent decision-making. Trustees must listen to the concerns of all stakeholders and work towards policies that enhance student success.
Several key issues need urgent attention, including student success, mental health support, and responsible budget management. It is essential to provide students with the necessary resources for academic and personal growth, ensure teachers receive adequate training and support, and manage the school board's budget responsibly to maintain and improve school infrastructure.
If elected, I am fully committed to dedicating the necessary time and effort to fulfill my responsibilities effectively. This includes attending all Toronto District School Board meetings, engaging with School Councils, meeting with parents and educators, and staying informed about educational policies. My focus will be on advocating for the needs of students and schools in Don Valley West.
While I am a member of the Ontario Liberal Party, my focus as a trustee is entirely on advocating for the educational needs and well-being of students. My priority is to serve the students, parents, and educators of Don Valley West without political influence, ensuring that decisions are made based on what is best for our schools and community.
I am proud to have the support of many community members, parents, and educators. Some of the prominent community leaders who have endorsed me include Geoff Kettel, Co-President of the Leaside Property Owners’ Association; George Hurst, former President of the Rotary Club Toronto Leaside; Lisa Grogan-Green, Co-Chair of the Go Green Youth Centre; and other respected figures in Don Valley West.
